Exhilarating ocean breeze… Exceedingly fresh mountain air… as we draw closer to summer, we yearn for clean, refreshing scents, and the oceanic fragrance family is as fresh as it gets.
At Czech & Speake, we are renowned for sourcing fine and unique ingredients to craft our fragrances. Although many of our complex scents look to ancient techniques in perfumery, our curious founder equally seeks to explore and build perfume of a contemporary nature, such as the citrus-marine Villa Ausonia. Relatively modern oceanic or ozone scents have had huge popularity since their creation and we’d like to tell you a bit more about the ultimate summer fragrance family…
What does ocean cologne smell like?
Oceanic or marine perfumes capture the aromas of natural water such as the sea and ocean, lakes and rivers, as well as the bracing sea or clifftop air. They can be made even more complex with hints of corresponding nature, such as driftwood, coastal trees and earthy sand.
What is oceanic perfume?
To capture the ocean smell, perfumers use essential oils such as citrus fruits, coastal and some aquatic-plants, and woods. One of the key ingredients used in oceanic fragrances is known as Calone, which replicates intensely fresh sea topped air, and has the versatility to adapt to specific ocean tones ranging from salty seaweed to luscious fruits.
Origins
Ocean scent is a relatively modern concept, originally emerging with popularity in perfumery in the 1980’s, and by the 1990’s, ocean breeze perfume became all the fashion, suiting the youthful, clean, minimalism styles of the time.
What are some ocean scents?
Oceanic fragrances have come a long way in perfumery, with incredibly sophisticated formulations that capture a whole range of scents that nod to niche aromas in nature and transport you to coastal locations. Often the sea breeze scent is paired with citrus notes to heighten the freshness of a cool ocean perfume, while floral notes such as water lilies, can be used to create a freshwater fragrance. Woody notes such as Cedarwood are effective in creating a scent reminiscent of the beach.
What is the best summer scent?
In the Czech & Speake range, there are a few summer fragrances that are always popular, such as citrus-floral Neroli and grapefruit scented Citrus Paradisi, but our ozone scent, Villa Ausonia, is our pick for the summer. Villa Ausonia is a unique take on an ocean scented perfume, inspired by the Atlantic breeze of South West France. An unusual mix of Apple, Basil and Lemon top the fragrance, with Calone, Confir and Ho Wood at the heart, on a base of Vanilla and Musk.
